In a rare acquisition, Google’s YouTube acquired startup Omnisio, a service that lets users edit videos.
Omnisio lets users extract sections of video clips found on YouTube, Google Video or Blip.tv and then mash them up to form their own embeddable video clips. According to TechCrunch, the all-cash deal is worth $15 million.

Reuters reports Batman fans inspired by his latest box office hit can bam and kapow alongside the Caped Crusader and other superheroes with the launch of the world’s first licensed massively multiplayer online comic book game.
Sony Online Entertainment (SOE) is using this week’s mammoth Comic-Con International show at the San Diego Convention Center to introduce the “DC Universe Online.”
This massively multiplayer online game allows players to create their own superhero or super villain and work in tandem with iconic characters like Superman, Wonder Woman, The Flash and bad guys like Bizzaro, The Joker and Lex Luthor.

Publishing giant Gannett Co. announced making a minority investment in video streaming service Mogulus. While Gannett didn’t disclose the amount, the blog TechCrunch reported the funding as being about $10 million. That would bring the New York-based company’s total financing to date to $13 million, according to TechCrunch.

HEALTH care giant Bupa is considering ditching the HBA and MBF brand names and has not decided whether to hold on to all the assets it picked up as part of its $2.41 billion buy-out of MBF earlier this year.

How much is Jay Leno’s last night on NBC worth for an advertiser? Estimates are that it could run $150,000 or $200,000 for a 30-second spot, according to media executives. Right now, NBC is considering possible advertising plans for Leno’s last night as host of “The Tonight Show,” which NBC recently said is now Friday, May 29, 2009. Conan O’Brien, host of NBC’s “Late Night,” takes over as “Tonight Show” host on Monday, June 1. At press time, an NBC spokeswoman had no comment about how it would be sold to marketers.

Entertainment software industry veteran Paul Lypaczewski recently joined Avid Technology as vp and GM of its video business, where he’s focusing on workflow and product integration as it continues to transform.
The video division encompasses Avid’s flagship Media Composer nonlinear editing system as well as its postproduction, broadcast and 3-D software products. With Lypaczewski on board, consumer video products have been added to the unit.
