It’s no secret that Google’s YouTube is under-performing in the advertising department. Forbes estimates that YouTube’s ad revenues will reach $200 million this year and $350 million in 2009, while Citi analyst Mark Mahaney thinks the video giant can make $500 million next year if it does a better job selling display ads Even so, TechCrunch contributor Don Reisinger says the question marks continue to hang over YouTube, especially compared to Fox and NBC’s joint venture, Hulu.

According to Mediaweek, Turner Sports has signed deals with Dodge and Gillette to launch sponsored microsites on Nascar.com. The deals are part of a new consumer outreach program launched this fall. Dodge is using the Web site to promote its 60th anniversary while Gillette will promote its TimeShaver Challenge contest.

NBC Sports is partnering with 7-Eleven for its Big Match-Up Promotion. The joint effort will send four store customers and their guests to watch NBC’s Football Night in America live in the studio when it airs during halftime of the Peacock network’s Sunday Night Football telecasts.
Mike McCarley, vp, marketing, promotions and communications, told MediaWeek that NBC Universal Sports & Olympics, is hoping the venture will extend well beyond the football couch potatoes.

Google, desperate to make money from YouTube, is now trying to pitch the video sharing site as a useful tool for business customers. The search giant is including YouTube as part of its Google Apps package deal for businesses that also includes email, instant messaging, calendars, word processing and spreadsheets.

Hello Chandler Bing, goodbye Bea Arthur. According to several online sources, TV Land will say goodbye to old reruns and replace them with, well, newer reruns. Friends is one series expected to air on the network, which is revamping its format to aim toward 40 year olds. TV Land is also expected to add a slew of original programming as well.
