YouTube lands singing career

Ah, the power of YouTube. Dondria Fields, a 21 year old North Texas native, put up videos of herself singing on YouTube and sure enough she landed a recording contract. Check this video to hear about her first album, and catch the subtle Cheetos placement in one of her YouTube videos.

Pepsi Deploys Interactive Ad for Video Music Awards

When MTV’s Video Music Awards air this weekend,Pepsi will have a presence. According to a story in Adage, subscribers to EchoStar Communications’ Dish satellite-TV network have been able to vote since late last month for Pepsi’s Best New Artist award at the VMAs by simply using their remote control. Parliament aims to ban sexist images in ads

According to an article in The Hollywood Reporter, the European Parliament is taking steps to
stop sexist images in the media and advertising. At a meeting in Brussels, The Parliament, voted on a monitoring program to ban images of women and men in advertising, broadcasting, video games and other forms of media that they deem sexist.

The Parliament noted in the article that images like women cleaning the kitchen and men polishing their cars are the first types to go. Read the rest of this entry »

ABC and Burnett jump in water together

Mark Burnet’s latest reality show “The Shark Tank” has landed on ABC. The network gave a pilot order to the show which is based on the Japanese series “Dragon’s Den.” The show centers on would-be money makers presenting their “genious” ideas to a panel of moguls. Sony Pictures will produce the show. If Burnett’s past series are any indication, you can bet they’ll be heavy on  the product placement. Take The Apprentice for example. I still have visions of Mike Piazza and Crest toothpaste from season two.

Easy Target: Aguilera partners up exclusive album

Christina Aguilera’s first greatest hits collection entitled “Keeps Gettin’ Better – A Decade of Hits” will be released exclusively at Target and Target.com on Nov. 11.

Aguilera follows artists like Alicia Keys, Carrie Underwood, the Jonas Brothers and others who have released music exclusively through the store. The album will feature a few new songs as well as new versions of some of her old classics. Read the rest of this entry »

Verizon Renews Yahoo Portal Pact

Verizon Communications and Yahoo have signed a new multi-year deal under which Yahoo’s portal will be the first offered to users of Verizon’s FiOS and DSL broadband Internet services. The new pact extends a 2005 partnership between the companies.

The Closer to get spin-off on TNT

The Closer, the highly successful cable drama, is set to get a spin-off next year. It’s unclear whether the show will center on an existing series character or a new one. Creator James Duff along with co-executive producer Adam Belanoff and Michael Berchem are onboard. Our suggestion: a show revolving around Lt. Provenza. Just an idea.
