OK, so you may not agree with the last part of the title for this column, but that’s fine, since this isn’t about whether or not the right guy won — we won’t know that for a while yet. Netflix announced yesterday that it will offer roughly 300 movies in high definition that could be streamed through Microsoft’s Xbox 360 game console as well as Roku, the box that enables streaming via television sets. Customers will be required to subscribe to Netflix’s mail-delivery program in order to take advantage of the HD.
Time Warner turned in a solid quarter despite a tough economic environment and steep advertising declines at its two troubled divisions, Time Inc. and AOL. Revenue of $11.71 billion was slightly higher than the $11.68 billion reported in the third quarter of 2007. Net income was $1.07 billion, slightly less than the $1.09 billion reported last year. Time Warner shares rose 2% to $11.07 in morning trading.

Steve Carell is set to reprise his role as Maxwell Smart in a sequel to the past summer’s Get Smart film. While it’s still in the very preliminary stages, one would figure the sequel would open summer 2010. Carell has a bunch of projects lined up already including a romantic comedy co-starring Tina Fey.
ABC will replace Dancing with the Stars with The Bachelor and a new reality show about beauty pageants produced by Tyra Banks and Ashton Kutcher. Anytime beauty pageants are involved there’s a good chance for product placement. True Beauty will debut Jan. 12. Clorice Leachman will be nowhere to be seen.
