Starting Wednesday, Dec. 3, Jokes.com will serve up some 5,000 video clips culled from hundreds of stand-up performances by the likes of Patton Oswalt, Zach Galifianakis and Sarah Silverman. Users will also be able to pour over 12,000 text-based jokes that are searchable by topic (“ethnic,” “mental health,” “booty call”) and by comedian.

Univision and producers Endemol and Amistad Productions are developing an online telenovela with some big-name talent for 2009. The network said that the program is designed to incorporate product placements and other integrations, although a representative said no deals have been struck yet.

The “Webnovela” is entitled Vidas Cruzadas (Crossed Lives) and will star well-known Hispanic actors Kate del Castillo and Guy Ecker. Carlos Sotomayor is the producer.

Warner Bros. will distribute “The Dark Knight” on video-on-demand in South Korea, two weeks before its DVD release, making it the first Hollywood studio to release a blockbuster on VOD before DVD.Pic will be offered through IPTV channels Mega TV and Broad&TV as well as digital cable TV service Home Choice from Friday.

Kanye West earns his third straight No. 1 on The Billboard 200 as “808s & Heartbreak” bows in the top slot. The Roc-A-Fella/Def Jam set moved 450,000 copies in the U.S., according to Nielsen SoundScan, the artist’s lowest debut sales frame since his first album, “The College Dropout,” bowed with 441,000 in 2004.

Google has stirred up further interest in its television advertising platform, signing a deal with Hallmark Channel that will enable clients to buy time on the network via Google TV.

The deal marks the search giant’s latest incursion into the TV ad space. In September, Google hammered out a similar deal with a number of NBC Universal’s cable networks, including Sci Fi Channel, Oxygen, MSNBC, CNBC, Sleuth and Chiller.

It seemed like a strech but in the Nov. 20 episode of ER, a patient asked what went wrong explains that she was on her way to a date with a man she met on Facebook. The placement seemed a bit odd, but effective. The patient later utters that she’d be upset if she missed out on meeting her future husband on the social network. In that same episode, a Corona beer box is visible in a scene in a spirits shop.

Dr Pepper have responded to the Guns N’ Roses’ claim that the free soda stunt was “a complete fiasco,” saying in a statement, “We are disappointed that Gn’R’s lawyers are turning a fun giveaway into a legal dispute.” According to the Dr Pepper Snapple Group, it was Axl Rose’s own management company that approached the soda makers before the campaign launched and openly shared their Chinese Democracy promotional plans with them. “We simply commented on the delayed release of Chinese Democracy and openly encouraged the band to release it before the end of the year. Axl even expressed support for our efforts earlier in the year,” the statement reads.

Yahoo shares jumped 16% following a Wall Street Journal report on Tuesday claiming that ex-AOL Chief Jonathan Miller was trying to raise money to buy all or part of Yahoo in his bid to become the company’s next CEO. However, a New York Post report this morning claims that while Miller is indeed looking to raise money, he’s not looking to do so in order to buy Yahoo.

Is the next big thing on the Web a video content syndication strategy that slices audiences across sites according to niche interests and sells advertising targeting these niches?

How-to online video provider 5min thinks so. Started as a classic destination Web site last year, it has in recent months quietly entered the content distribution game by syndicating its video content to text-focused sites, such as general information destinations Answers.com and wikiHow.com, as well as enthusiasts sites like BackyardGardener.com.

“We are looking to be a new media version of cable channels,” says CEO Ran Harnevo, highlighting that it would cost loads of marketing money to make every Web surfer with a specific need aware of 5min.com. Instead, the privately-held company is looking to broaden its reach further by bringing contextually-relevant content to users wherever they may be.
